Public Workshop for Future Transit Planning

Tuolumne County Transit Agency (TCTA) is updating two key planning documents that guide where transit goes next in our community: the 2025–2030 Short Range Transit Plan (SRTP) and the Coordinated Public Transit–Human Services Transportation Plan (Coordinated Plan).

These plans help TCTA evaluate what’s working today, identify what needs improvement, and map out practical steps to better serve residents over the next several years. Most importantly, they’re meant to reflect the real needs of people who use transit today and the people who want to use it in the future.

That’s why we’re inviting the public to participate in a Public Workshop to hear project updates and share your feedback on potential future service options.

Why are we updating these plans?

Transit doesn’t stand still—communities grow and change, travel patterns shift, and the needs of riders evolve. Updating the SRTP and Coordinated Plan is a way to make sure TCTA is planning responsibly for the next five years by:

  • Checking how current services are performing and where gaps may exist

  • Identifying community priorities for improvements and new options

  • Coordinating transportation for seniors, people with disabilities, low-income residents, and other community members who may rely on transportation support services

  • Building a clear roadmap for service improvements, partnerships, and future funding opportunities

In other words, these plans help ensure we’re making decisions based on data, community input, and real-world needs, so we can deliver the best possible service with the resources available.

What we’ve done so far

To get to this point, the planning effort has focused on listening and learning. This includes reviewing service and operational information, identifying trends in ridership and travel demand, and gathering input from the public and community partners.

We’ve also been working to understand where improvements would make the most significant difference, whether that’s reliability, coverage, access to key destinations, or service options that better fit different trip needs.

Now we’re at a critical stage: sharing what we’ve learned and getting your input on the service options under consideration.

What service options are being discussed?

As part of the planning process, the SRTP and Coordinated Plan have identified several potential future options for transit service in Tuolumne County, including:

  • New bus routes

  • Dial-a-Ride improvements

  • On-demand service

  • Intercounty connections

At the workshop, we’ll review these concepts and ask for your feedback. What would help most? What concerns you may have, and what ideas you’d like us to explore.

You’re invited: Public Workshop details.

Date: Thursday, January 29, 2026

Time: 5:30 PM – 7:00 PM

Location: Tuolumne County Library, 480 Greenley Road, Sonora, CA 95370

Getting there is easy (and free!)

To make participation as simple as possible, you can use fixed route or Dial-a-Ride to attend the workshop, and both are free to ride. If you’ve never taken transit before, this is an excellent opportunity to try it and share your experience.

Why your input matters

Planning works best when it’s grounded in the lived experience of the community:

  • If you ride regularly, you know where service is strong and where it can be improved.

  • If you don’t ride today, your perspective helps us understand the barriers, such as schedules, access, or trip needs that aren't currently being met.

  • If you’re a caregiver, service provider, or someone supporting clients, your insight can help improve coordination and access for people who depend on transportation options.

Even small feedback—like “I need a better connection to medical appointments” or “a route to this destination would change everything”—can help shape the priorities in these plans.
